To start the year off, I have narrowed my focus to 3 areas of health that need my full attention. These three health goals are all connected in multiple ways. Creating habits to support these goals will ignite my wild healing.
I want to share with you what these 3 goals are, why I chose to focus on these areas, and a few things I plan to do to support these goals throughout the year.
In July of 2017, I decided to stop taking birth control pills after 11 years. Yeah….11 years! That’s a long time taking synthetic hormones. When taking oral contraceptives for an extended amount of time, the body can store excess estrogen in the liver. Even 6 months after stopping the pill, I believe my body is still releasing those excess stores of estrogen. My menstrual cycle is short and still similar to the predictable regimen of the pill. Oral contraceptives can also deplete the body of important vitamins & minerals such as vitamins B2, B6, B12, C, & E, folic acid, magnesium, selenium, and zinc. Balancing my hormones in 2018 is a big focus for me since I want to feel like my best self every day!
- Taking an organ complex supplement that is packed with multiple types of B vitamins & minerals
- Lemon & Dandelion Root Tea to support the liver in removing excess estrogen
- Eating a lot of healthy fats to encourage hormone production: avocados, coconut oil, olive oil
2. Gut Health
Tummy troubles! Crippling stomach aches after eating used to be a regular occurrence for me. Since improving my diet, stomach aches happen less often—but still happen. Research shows that oral contraceptives can disrupt the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut. Having used birth control pills for 11 years coupled with a poor diet, no wonder why I suffer from bloating and digestive issues. Unbalanced gut bacteria can also lead to poor nutrient absorption, skin disorders, food sensitivities, fatigue and more!
- Fermented foods for probiotics: sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha,
- Apple cider vinegar in water with meals
- Bone Broth
- Increase in leafy greens like spinach, swiss chard, arugula
I have been battling with acne as long as I can remember! Acne and skin conditions can be so frustrating. I have tried so many different skin care products on a quest to get perfect skin. I have to admit…I am a recovering product junkie. It wasn’t until 2017, when I started to focus on my eating habits that I witnessed what nourishment through food can do for the skin. I often struggle with cystic acne on my chin that leaves unsightly scars. I absolutely love eye make up, but I’m a no foundation kind of woman. So, cystic acne and the dark marks left behind always impact my confidence greatly.
- Increase Water intake
- Collagen Powder Supplement for amino acids to aid in skin repair
- Increase Zinc intake with a supplement and whole foods such as spinach and pumpkin seeds to aid my skin in healing and lower inflammation.
These are my 3 goals for 2018! Consistency is the name of the game for this year. More consistency creates healthy habits and the benefits will be bountiful! Throughout the year I plan to share in depth what I am doing and products I am using to continue to support these goals.
Now tell me, have you set any goals for 2018? I would love to hear about them. Let’s cheer each other on and keep the New Year vibes going the entire year!
