Jan 28 The 21-Day Sugar Detox: Week 2
Today is the last day of Week 2 of my 21DSD journey, and I’m sitting cozy with a warm cup of ginger lemon tea on a lovely Sunday night to bring you some updates on my journey. Last Sunday I reminded myself that food prep truly is the key to success when changing your diet. Whether you make complete meals for the whole week from start to finish, or you cook a variety of proteins to be used in different dishes throughout the week, it all leads to success.
I went into Week 2 wanting to get more creative with my meals. I ended up being somewhat creative but mostly went with simple and easy. It was one of those Sunday’s where I mostly wanted to relax & recharge for the next work week but knew I had to set some time aside to prepare if I wanted to accomplish what I set out to do.
This Week’s Meals

This Week’s Challenges
I started off on this detox with a firm resolve to omit sugar & dairy, but I have to admit that I….just love cheese. I could easily eat a whole block of cheese and be happy….well, happy until my face exploded with cystic acne or I spent the rest of the night clutching my stomach. You would think those symptoms alone would stop me from eating it a long time ago, but alas I am human just like you. And sometimes we let our emotions keep us from letting go of that which may be hurting our bodies rather than nourishing us.
I sailed through Week 1 without dairy like a breeze. I simply followed the “Do eat”/”Don’t eat” lists when making my meals, and I was more than satisfied. Week 2 rolled around and I found myself packing my lunch one day and thought: “I could totally add some cheese to this, and it would taste even better.” As soon as I had this thought, the cravings kicked in.
This thought happened a couple of times during Week 2 for both dairy and sugar. When this happened I realized I needed to stop this emotional craving from spinning out of control.
I found myself asking questions in response to those thoughts such as:
“How is your skin looking today?”
“Have you been having stomachs lately?”
“How has your energy been?”
I found that these questions would allow me to center and focus. Why? Well—because of “My Why”.
“How is your skin looking today?”—Great!
“Have you been having stomachs lately?”—No!
“How has your energy been?”—Awesome!
All of these questions and answers supported my reasons why I am challenging myself to the 21DSD. Just asking myself one of these questions made it easier for me to say:
I don’t want or need to add dairy to this meal.
I don’t want or need to eat that brownie.
We often forget how powerful our minds are. Even more so, we seem to forget that it only takes but a moment to realign with our goals—if we allow ourselves.
As Week 2 comes to an end, I am feeling optimistic that I can push through and meet my goal at the finish line!
January is already coming to a close, can you believe it? Have you made any steps toward your goals? If not, don’t fret! Take a moment, take a breath, and realign.
