Product Review: Perfect Breakfast Plant-Based Protein

It’s product review time! I was contacted by a company called Perfect Breakfast to give their plant-based protein powder a try. They make a plant-based protein powder that is low carb, sweetened with natural sweeteners and has healthy fats. I’m normally not a protein powder girl, but I have tried different protein powder products in the past (Most of them just tasted like chalk chocolate, yuck!). Having said that, I was intrigued by those three big factors: natural sweetener, dairy-free, and healthy fats. So, let’s get into this review!

What is in Perfect Breakfast Plant-Based Protein Powder?

 

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. What is in the ingredients?

Perfect Breakfast Ingredients

 

Protein

Perfect Breakfast protein powder has 20 g of protein per serving. The protein comes from a plant-based blend of organic pea protein, flax seed, quinoa, pumpkin seed, oats, & brown rice.

Most protein powders roughly range from 20-25 g of protein per serving. This places Perfect Breakfast on the lower end of the scale, but the amount of protein needed really depends on what you are looking to use a protein powder for: nutrition or building muscle?

Healthy Fats

Perfect breakfast has 9 g of fat per serving coming from macadamia nut oil…say what?! Most protein powders have 1-2 g of fat.

Healthy fats are your friend, they will help you feel more full and satisfied for a longer amount of time. I don’t know about you but I really dislike having a smoothie in the morning only to be ravenously hungry an hour later.

Low Carb & natural sweeteners

This powder has 7g of total carbs, breaking down into 2 g of fiber & 3 g of sugar. Only 5 net carbs for any Keto-ers. Not too bad.

Stevia and monk fruit are used as natural sweeteners. Both of which have a low impact on blood sugar. These are my favorite natural sweeteners since they do not give me any digestion problems.

Minerals & Vitamins

You’re also going to get quite a bit of minerals & vitamins with this powder:

  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Calcium
  • Zinc
  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Pantothenic Acid (B Vitamin)
  • Niacin (B Vitamin)
  • Phosphorus
  • Copper

What makes this protein powder unique?

Perfect breakfast contains 115 mg of caffeine per serving to really give you that jumpstart in the morning. What I found to be unique is that the caffeine comes from green coffee beans.

Prior to trying this product, I had not heard of consuming green coffee beans, nor their benefits.

What I found on Green coffee bean benefit claims:

  • Helps with weight loss
  • Normalize blood sugar
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Antioxidants
  • Improve energy levels, focus, & mood

These benefits sound amazing, but I was not able to find a lot of hard scientific evidence.

Having said that, having caffeine in your protein powder can still be a major plus. Instead of struggling to choose whether to have your morning coffee IV or a nutritious smoothie, you’ve got the best of both worlds!

My experience with Perfect Breakfast Plant-Based Protein Powder

 

As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I haven’t been too crazy about protein powders in the past but I have been wanting to make more smoothies and shakes. I used the powder to make shakes in the morning and would skip out on my fatty coffee when I did this.

Taste & Consistency

The taste is pretty on point. It tastes like delicious chocolate & no chalky taste. I always use the powder in a blender and it blends beautifully. No clumps or grittiness.

I have read that others have tried shaking it in a water bottle and get a good consistency as well, but I have not tried this myself.

Nutrition

I love the breakdown of protein, fats, carbs, and vitamins/minerals. The vitamins and minerals are perfect for adding essential electrolytes, which is super important to keep you feeling good if you are eating low/lower carb.

The healthy fat allowed me to feel satisfied. With previous protein powders, I tend to feel pretty ravenous after an hour or so.

Digestion

I’ve mentioned on the blog that I struggle with digestive issues and have been on a journey to heal this. Since my stomach is pretty sensitive, I have had bad experiences with protein powders in the past.

One product that really sticks out in my mind due to a bad experience is a different plant-based protein powder (product will go unnamed). This may be TMI, but for you, I will tell all!

The previous product gave me the worse stomach bloat and gas build up. It was terrible. 

That experience left me apprehensive to try any other plant-based protein powder, but I liked the ingredients of Perfect Breakfast at first glance.

Verdict

 I am happy to report that there were no digestive issues with Perfect Breakfast! Another major plus for me.

I believe this is definitely a result of two things:

  • The probiotic blend in ingredients
  • The choice of natural sweeteners: stevia & monk fruit

Caffeine

I love the caffeine for a morning boost. I do caution you to be aware of your personal caffeine limits.

One day I decided to have a shake in the afternoon with the powder and forgot that it has caffeine. I had a lot of coffee that morning. I ended up not feeling too great that afternoon since it was too much caffeine for me in one day.

Of course, this is user error. I just want to caution others to know their own caffeine limits so they can enjoy this protein powder.

Super simple and easy recipes using Perfect Breakfast Protein Powder

A couple of ways I used this protein powder in shake recipes!

Mint & Strawberry Chocolate Shake

Ingredients

2 scoops of Perfect Breakfast Plant-based Protein Powder
2 cup unsweetened can coconut milk
4 oz of peppermint tea
½ cup frozen strawberries (about 5-6 strawberries depending on size)
½ cup of ice
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract (I prefer non-alcoholic)
½ of an avocado

Instructions

  1. Steep peppermint tea in 4 oz of water for 7 minutes.
  2. Cool in freezer
  3. Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend well
  4. Enjoy!

Neopolitan Shake

Ingredients

2 scoops of Perfect Breakfast Plant-Based Protein Powder
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond or coconut milk
3/4 cup frozen strawberries
½ cup of ice
½ of an avocado
1 tsp of vanilla extract (I prefer non-alcoholic)

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend well
  2. Enjoy!

In my honest and objective opinion, I really love this product. This will be my go-to protein powder because it has a great taste, it’s easily digestible, energy boosting and easy protein.
